External Hard Drive Enclosure

I have a 3.5" hard drive setup in an External Hard Drive enclosure. The problem is that the small fan on the back makes a terrible noise, so I have disconnected it.

Will the HD be okay with the fan disconnected ?

probably not....it is used to stop it over heating doing so may make it over heat and cut out....you might even loose data
not advisable

My external case (plastic) does Not have a fan or ventalation holes and the drive can be on for days with no ill effect.

My enclosure has no fan either. I don't know whether disconnecting yours would be advisable though, I presume mine was designed to run cool enough without a fan and perhaps yours needs it.

You could buy a new enclosure that doesn't have a fan.

Just a thought.
