Hi everyone.
Have just purchased a Western Digital 250gb external hard drive. In the instruction manual that comes with the drive it says the drive is pre formatted to fat32 to ensure compatibility with all windows operating systems.I,m currently running xp pro with the drive formatted to NTFS.Will it be necessary to format the external drive to ntfs or can it be left as it is?Thaks in advance.

It can be left but there are advantages in converting to NTFS, I did.

I found this method the most straightforward. Make sure you do the new drive not your C drive!

Thanks for your replies anskyber. The last one should prove very useful. The instructions in the manual are a bit basic. Will go ahead and reformat the new drive to ntfs and then post as to how Iget on.Thanks again
