I am going to purchase an External Hard Disk but I am confused some quote 2.5" others quote 3.5" can any one explain the difference and which one should I purchase, many Thanks.

".5" is for laptops - 3.5" is for Desktop towers etc.

Ooops 2.5" is for laptops!

It depends what tower u have. A 2.5 is the size of a floppy drive and a 3.5 fits in the same bay as a cd drive.

You need a 3.5" USB External hard drive.

Oops! I misread the question. Ignore me!!

2.5s are often portable, im going 2.5 next time i think

3.5 fits in the same bay as a cd drive .......

There are usually extra 'hidden' bays below where the floppy drive would be, for added 3.5" drives. To fit a 3.5" drive into a CD ROM Bay would need an extra piece of kit, an Enclosure to fit in the 5.25" bay.

I have two external USB hard drives fitted to my Tower - both are fully Portable, as is any USB item.

PS - I meant to say two 3.5" external .... etc
