External DVD Writer - USB compatibilty

Can anyone please tell me if a Sony DRX510UL external DVD writer drive has a USB Connection and if this is USB2? It is advertised as having Firewire compatibilty.

My laptop is a 2 year old Dell Latitude with only first generation USB ports. Will a USB2 enabled drive be able to work effectively on my laptop?

Thanks.

USB 1 or 1.1 is not fast enough to allow reasonable speed of data transfer of a DVD. You need USB2 or Firewire.

If you have a desktop, you can get a PCI card with firewire and USB2 from Scan click here Item # LN5701

I think it's both firewire and USB 2. click here (but check before you buy in case there are variations in different countries).

It will work on a USB 1 port, but if you're going to write a DVD, the amount of data is large, and a usb 1 connection will be so slow it's not worth it.

You can get a PC card adapter for firewire and/or usb 2 connection.

According to Sony UK's site the 510UL is both USB2 and IEEE1394
