External DVD RW not working

  jc_ferrero 05:12 26 May 07

Again, this is under Windows 98 SE. When I power it up and have it plugged in, Windows always detects it as "USB 2.0 Storage Device". I've tried installing it as "USB 2.0 Storage Device", but no luck.

It's not detected and can't play CDs.

Hi, sounds as if you need the Win98SE driver for it. You should be able to get the driver from the manufacturers web site.

Thanks for your response Technotiger! The external case and DVD-RW driver are separate and are being used together. What do I find the drivers for? The case or the drive?

Driver for the DVD-RW.

As with your other Thread. Do you think that you may have too many USB Devices Connected.

You might need to consider a Powered Hub.

I solved the problem, thanks everyone for the input. I installed a generic driver for a USB 2.0 mass storage device, then the burner detected correctly by itself.
