External DVD Drive or Hard Disk for Backup?

  Daibus 09:27 23 Sep 05

I would like to purchase some hardware to back up my PC and was wondering if it's best to go for an external DVD Drive or an external Hard Disk?

External hard drive every time - higher capacity - faster - more reliable.

Other possibility - Internal hard drive in a removeable caddy (that's what I use) - same price, but faster transfers, especially on older systems without USB2.

External Hard Drive it's aasy to make your own up, and a lot cheaper to by a Caddy and Drive to fit it

For any of the above, you need to have USB2 or Firewire for decent copy speed

Starting about £95 for a 250gb (not that much cheaper for less storage) Maxtor, Lacie, Western Digital....

Cost a little more for firewire, or firewire and usb2...

A nice easier backup solution

If you only have one PS just fit a Extra Drive

Thanks guys for your help.

I live in Spain ansd located a Lacie 160Gb External USB2 for the equivalent of about £75 which I thought was a fair buy for me.
