External Drive slow

I am in the process of loading an image of my ‘C drive’ from an External Disk to the desktop. There was, at the start, no data in that drive and some 63 gb is being copied across from the External drive.

When the copying started Acronis reported that it would take two days! A short time afterwards this dropped to 1 day but is now slowly (very) reducing.

My question is why so slow?

My guess is that it is a USB problem – that, as the ‘C drive’ was empty to start with then the USB2 external drive is operating as a USB1 device – but is this the real reason?

The drive is normally quite fast.

It is because you are using the drive in a usb 1.1 slot which on runs at about 12mbit/s whereas usb 2.0 runs at 480mbit/s so theres quite a difference
