External drive idea

  foxydan 19:49 01 Dec 10

I have an idea that I'm not quite sure will work.

I'd like to be able to take my programs/software with me on the go so I am able to run them on any laptop/pc.

My plan is to put them onto an external hard drive that I'd carry with me. I know that this would not work with all programs due to some software creating registry files, so could I create a virtual machine on the drive and install programs to it? Would they run on any latop or pc that I'd use as they'd be working from the drive acting as my virtual machine?

Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Would your software licence(s) allow you to do this ?

Will not work, as when you load a programs it writes to the registry for how it works,. some programs will work if you expand all the files and copy them to the drive in a folder, then find the EXE file that runs the program and double click it
