is it possible to extend a USB cable beyond 5 metres ?.

Idealy I want a length of 15m. I want to site my DSLR camera in my garden to shoot some time lapse photos, controlling the camera from my desktop.

Obviously any connections must be waterproof.

Thanks Bremner, a search had found out the 5m limit, but I missed the bit about "hubs"

could be worth giving them a ring as they seem to do other methods as well

I hesitate to suggest alternatives to a camera expert, but what about wireless triggering, like this ir others?

You can get USB extender Cables that let you go over 5m

John I already have wireless triggering and software (supplied by Canon on their software disc)

At the moment I am using a laptop/DSLR from my shed to take photos of plants and birds, but it's getting a little cold, so need a longer USB cable, then I can work from the comfort of my desktop.

"Liveview" has really opened up a new world for photography.

wjrt no need to google as I have a large roll of self amalgamating tape.

A trip to Maplins should solve my problem.

Many thank to all for the info.
