I need to restore my daughters French HP laptop so am trying to transfer all her important documents onto a hard drive, connected via USB key.

Although somewhere in her system it is picking up the hard drive, when clicking on the shortcut icon it gives the message :

create a shortcut resolve problems properties

we've done all three but no problems have been found. I've also been in computer management to find the ext hard drive which it does.

How do we copy and paste all her documents into the hard drive, it's not showing as it does on my computer eg. open folder to view files

Also it is not showing in the bottom right hand corner of show hidden icons.

Any suggestions please?

It sounds the the drive is not allocated a drive letter or is notformaat so windows explorer can not recognise it.

If nothing you want on the external drive - then in disk management right click the drive and select either - assign drive letter or format.

hopefully on completetion you will see the drive in My computer.
