Given an old packard be 98; on boot I get a message from Explorer saying 'This program has performed a illegal operation and will be shut down. This message stays in front each time I try to access a prog. Sometimes the prog will work and its possible to click off the message and keep program running but more often this makes it goes back to my desk top, Grateful for any help

HI Howard 63 The machine is running Win89 Has a pentium3 Processor and resources show 86% free. Mostly used for kid's games which is what I want for my g/children. Do you think a Reg repairer would do the trick. Thanks for interest

start>shutdown>restart in ms-dos

when in dos type scanreg/fix

if get a cursor at the end type exit

HI Madboy33 Unable to to do this because the only way to shut down is by holding in the start button therefore when I boot up it goes straight to scan then to password sign in.

SEe click here . This may help, you may be able to do scanreg/fix in Safe mode
