Explorer not functioning properly

I seem to have a gremlin in my Internet Explorer 6. The fly down menus are pausing for a short time instead of opening in one movement and I'm wondering if there is something going on that I am unaware of. I have already checked out the System Configuration Utility and cannot find anything amiss. I have run the usual checks for spyware and viruses.

Would anyone be able to shed any light on this phenomenon.

I have just tried removing the sounds associated with the menu commands and some other interactive sounds and I may have solved my own problem.
I will leave the topic open for a day or so in case I haven't solved it.
