Explorer Hanging on C: Drive - XP Home SP2

My C: drive is a mirror RAID - twin 120 Gb DDD; about 55% full.

Just recently when trying to explore the C: drive using "My Computer" it lists some of the files and just hangs; have to use Task Manager to close it down; none of the other drives exhibit the same .

It's most frustrating and also happens in Safe Mode.

This is compounded by System Restore not working on RAID arrays and that means I'm unable to roll things back.

Can anyone help please?

There is an faq in this months PCA mag relating to SP2, one such, is after installing SP2 pc runs slower due to the way O/S files are replaced, answer they give is to defrag HDD and this should solve problem it may not be directly related to yours but it may be worth doing....

Defragged HDD today using both Windows Defrag in Safe Mode & Raxco Perfectdisk 6.0; also ran Spybot, Adaware SE & Ultra WinCleaner - no difference

Ultra WinCleaner also identified an invalid registry entry related to shell32.dll which it did not remove - error message is:

The COM object has an empty or invalid Program ID Key.

SubKey is HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{3DA165B6-CC41-11d2-BDC6-00C04F79EC6B}\ProgID

Value is {4DFF7245-D4E0-4CDF-8FBA-C2A0A22AF940}

Could this be the cause & is it safe to remove manually using Regedit anyway?

Tried that; hung after just over 190,000 files

My NAV 2004 Pro found only one nasty during a scan two days ago.

Problem still persists

Suddenly started working again.

Total mystery.

Maybe it is a mystery, but you came to the right place for help anyway....T
