Every time I start up my pc (steam-powered windows 98) I get the following error message:

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module ~8272807082.TMP at 0187:02ab3a6a.

Can anyone explain what this means and how I can fix it?

Try this

start

run

sfc

and click start.

Also try a defrag, clearing out temp files, etc. If no help, check what runs at startup:

start

run

msconfig

and under the startup tab, disable anything unnecessary click here

thanks d.s.
ran "sfc" as suggested which found two corruptions.
One fixed from Win98 installation disk.
The other (hh.exe) not fixed because it says that it's from a newer veriosn of 98 than my disk. I guess it's from the SE I downlaoded?
Where would the file to restore hh.exe be on my pc as it's not on the original disk?

Try typing hh.exe into google. A great many results, at least one should help you.
