Experiencing problem when connecting to internet

Hope someone can help, I had to reformatt my hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. I have now got to the stage where I have everything up and running. One problem I still have is when I connect to the internet, using NTL, the egg timer and cursor arrow flicker and I can't connect. I have to use ctrl, alt delete to get the close program box up and end the program msqsrv32(not responding), it might be a g instead of a q but it's not easy to read. I'm using windows 98SE. I'm sure in the murky past somewhere I cured this but I can't remember how, does anyone know how to cure it so that I don't have to constantly reset it everytime I log on? Here's hoping, thanks.

Seems likely that you have a windows problem rather than logon, but NTL technical suport should be able to help you.
