Expensive Trojans making unwanted 0909 calls

  geof 16:56 05 Mar 03

Expecting images via e-mail I opened a message and then found it was a porn site. I deleted it - I thought. But it had installed on my hard drive and now dials out every ten minutes , trying to connect me to the site. It ran up a bill for £200 in a couple of hours before the telephone exchange told me and I got the number barred. But it still trys to dial out. I keep finding things to delete to try and get rid of it, but its still there. I run Windows XP. I can't afford such bills or the risk of them. Ideas/Help ?

check your dial up connections(click start/ connections/ show all connections) has a dialler been installed if no run a virus check and see what you come up with

try putting firewall / antivirus software on (cheaper than £200 bill) - should pick up trojans. I have several attacks each night but Norton seems to sort them out with a warning that trojan trying to be installed !!!

try looking in the windowes and system32 folder as a few diallers have done the same to me.

Are you sure this file was sent through email? Did you "accidently" stumble upon some porn site?

A simple answer but then I'm simple. When not using the modem unplug it, I do!
