Exchanging files between computers

I have recently bought a new computer running Windows XP. I want to transfer My Documents folders and files from my older computer running Windows 98. I bought a serial / laplink cable today but still have not mastered how to move the files over. I've tried using the Files and Settings Wizard but do not really want to move the settings - only files. Also it just stalled once the older computer had copied the files. I've also tried Direct Cable Connection on the older computer but there is no equivalent on XP and Network Connection does not seem to do the job (asking me for passwords that don't exist as far as I know) Any ideas ?

For detailed advice about Direct Cable Connection, see click here

If you are at all comfortable inside a PC case, it will be quicker to remove the old drive, install it as a slave in the XP PC, then just drag and drop whatever files you want onto the XP PC.
