Excessively annoying problem

A really annoying problem has suddenly appeared on my computer. Whenever I try to install an old program, I get this error message

16 bit Windows subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for runnung MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I get the option to 'Ignore' but that doesn't do anything. It's probably just some small thing (I'm not very good with computers) but It definitely doesn't sound like good news.

Have a look if you have a C:\windows\repair folder. If you do, copy autoexec.nt and config.nt from there to C:\windows\system32 and see if that fixes the problem. If not, follow the above procedure.
