Exception 0E at 0028:C002B27A in VxD NTKERN(01)

I am a complete novice who has had a trouble-free PC for 18mths. I am now getting the following message on a blue screen:

Exception 0E at 0028:C002B27A in VxD NTKERN(01)+ 0000B16A called from 0028:C002F285 in VxD NTKERN(01) + 0000F175

Does anyone have any ideas where I start looking?

I recently ran Winshampoo Optimiser suite, defrag and scan disk - could this be the culprit?

Optimiser proggys usually try to get a program or app to do more than they are supposed to do and u can get conflicts as a result, have you tried reversing what you did see if that helps. This may help but you didnt say what OS this is for 98

could be, if you have any disk cleaning sceduled in windows. if you are getting these blue screen errors at random intervals, you may have a virus, viruse's don't just use the internet to be passed on, if a freind copied anything for you on his pc he may in advertantley infect you make sure you check windows knowlagebase, type in the error code e.g. 0x0000007E and see what you find..

The link I gave does have some NTKERN listed but not the exact one Roo54321 mentioned. I am hoping the link will guide Roo54321 to the right place to solve the problem.

Thanks for your replies. I am running Windows ME. Problem seems to occur randomly, but seems to also be whenever the CD-ROM drive is accessed (I think). Same error code each time.

I found the code on the Microsoft knowledgebase (thanks to your links) and it says code is a sound card driver problem when playing Combat Flight Simulator (no, I wasn't!).

I can't load a driver from Creative Soundblaster, as it says my machine is an OEM (??!!)
