Excel XP problems

Have recently had the need to rebuild my w98se system owing to new hard disc. Insatlled Office XP ( which had been working fine for the last year or so).
Last night while knockin up a simple Phone list on Excel, no graphs or charts or anything, and while no other programs were running, apart from background ones, I got the error message " not enough system resourcesto display" - - then the background went all funny, you know, the "graphics card appears broken" type of funny. Got on MSN knowledge base today, downloade SP1 and SP2 and tried to install and got, from SP1
" Error 1328.Error applying patch to file C:\config.nsi\PT2370.TMP.It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch"
Any ideas here ??? As stated before , it worked before my system broke.
