Hi I have a list of numbers for example
1234
12345
123456

I need to change the format so the numbers are shown to 7 digits replacing them with zeros i.e from the example above to below format.

0001234
0012345
0123456

Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thank you for your help

Try Format - Cells - Custom. Then enter 0000000 (7 zeros, or whatever total number of digits you want to display)

This is taken from the excel help files (excel 2000).

"Display leading or trailing zeros in a number.

You can use custom number formats to retain leading zeros in numbers that you enter.

Select the cells you want to format.

On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.

In the Category list, click Custom.

In the Type box, edit the number format codes to create the format you want.
Editing a built-in format does not remove the format.

To display Use this code
12 as 00012 and 123 as 00123 00000"

I have tested it and it does seem to do what you need!

Good Luck!

Damn! - Gongoozler beat me to it! My excuse is that I didn't know the answer, so had to go away and find it!
