excel help with cell format

I'm trying a simple task but I'm not able to complete.
I want to enter telephone numbers into a spread sheet and each time I enter eg 0121 it looses the 0. I can get around this by converting the cells to text formate but is there a better way?

Just type in an single quote mark first, its on the @ symbol key.

if you put a space anywhere in the number, it will recognise it as text anyway. (In fact any character that isn't a 0-9 digit)
