Excel graph question

Hi,

My son is using Excel's chart wizard to create a bar graph of a list of 20 items of data. The numbers (on the x axis) are 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 up to 10. When he highlights the numbers it puts them in as 1 to 20 under the columns and not the numbers 1 to 10 in 0.5 increments. He can clear the numbers on the x axis and write them by hand but he would like it to be done 'properly'

How do we get it to show the incremental numbers?

Thanks,

Excel can be a bit non-intuitive when it comes to charts. Assuming that the sheet is Sheet1, the X axis values are in A1:A20 and the Y axis values are in B1:B20 then

Select B1:B20 and use the Chart Wizard to create a bar graph. Then right click one of the bars and select Source data. On the Series tab > Category (X) axis labels enter

=Sheet1!A1:A20

and click OK.

You can then right click the X axis, select Format axis and adjust the decimal places etc. as required.
