I can use the Excel "Month" function to give me a number for the month in any given date: e.g. 1 for January, 2 for February etc. Is there a way to find the name corresponding to a number when using a formula? That is, on finding the number 3, to display March?

Returns the month of a date represented by a serial number. The month is given as an integer, ranging from 1 (January) to 12 (December).

Syntax:

MONTH(serial_number)

Once you have the number displayed in the cell, right click the cell and select 'Format Cells'

From there select the Number Tab then select 'Custom' and type in MMM or MMMM.

This will change the number to either say Jan or January depending on the number of M's

Or with a date in A1

=TEXT(A1,"mmmm")
