i'm doing a little maths test for my grandson,on a spreadsheet. i've got it to mark the results of each answer using the formula =IF(C3=11,"correct","Wrong!").now i want to assign rewards eg for 20 correct, display "x",for 15 to 19 correct, display "y", for 10 to 14 correct, display "z" etc. can anyone help with a formula. also can i make the "correct/wrong" cell empty, unless the reference cell contains an entry, (if the cell is blank, before he enters an answer,it still displays "wrong")

YOU CAN NEST IF STATEMENTS TO ACHIEVE THE RIGHT / WRONG TEXT.

LIKE THIS:
=IF(C3=0,"",IF(C3=11,"RIGHT","WRONG"))

THE EASIEST WAY TO GIVE A SCORE IS TO USE THE SAME IF STATEMENT BUT SUBSTITUTE 1 FOR RIGHT AND 0 FOR WRONG. THEN SUM VALUES AND USE NESTED IF STATEMENTS TO GIVE REMARK LIKE "10 RIGHT COULD DO BETTER" ETC. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN HIDE THE SCORE VALUES BY HIDING THE COLUMN.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

=IF(C3="","empty",IF(C3>19,"x",IF(C3>14,"y",IF(C3>9,"z","-"))))
