Excel 2003 drag down cell to fill rest in column

One of my columns is class e.g. A1, A2, A3 etc i.e a letter plus a number with no space between them. If I enter A1 and then click on the little + in the corner and drag it down, Excel increments the number A2, A3. A6 etc. which I don't want. I tried to copy the cell amd paste it into selected cells but it did not work.

Er - what do you want? If you want A1, A3, A5 then type that list in and then drag as before and it should become 7,etc.

If you want A1 all the way down then drag with the ctrl key held down.

Thanks Woolwell. Same value in each cell is what I wanted. It will save me lots of time when the entries are much longer
