Eudora on XP Home

Problem : Cannot send emails with Eudora since Friday 31.10.03 ( Error maessage ' ... 503 Unexpected command or sequence of commands ' )

System : WinXP Home, AVG ( upated ), b9, Eudora v6 ( recently updated )

Attempts to solve : With telephone assistance from ISP's Tech Support, checked and reset Options - to no avail. Set up Outlook Express ( urgh ! ) and could send.
System Restore to earlier date ( pre-v6 update ) - all recent emails retained, but still couldn't send, same error message.
Account cancelled and re-activated at ISP, no avail.

Switched on old Win98 computer, Eudora v5.2, had been used occasionally in recent weeks - now same error message when attempting to send, but can receive and view with Mailwasher.

Obvious solution : use Outlook Express to send ( need/wish to retain Eudora with all saved business emails and addresses ) - tedious and time-consuming to use 2 progs.

Conclusion : despite the suggestions to the contrary from Tech Support, if 2 separate & independent machines cannot send using different versions of Eudora then the problem would appear to be at ISP's end.

Can anybody advise , please ?

Had a rummage and came up with Check your "Nicknames" window. You may have entered a nickname without
completing the address. In other words, you haven't entered a valid
internet address on the right side in the "Address(es):" column. ??

What ya think?

Move or delete the nndbase.txt and nndbase.toc in your
Eudora directory.

gladly, but what will that do/achieve ?

will check 'nicknames', but I have tried to send several notes to my own name, and to others - some using nicknames others their full address : all failed

Thank you, will keep informed

Delete these two files from the Eudora directory:

OUT.MBX
OUT.TOC

These are the files that make up the OUT mailbox (OUT.MBX is the mailbox
itself, and OUT.TOC is the Table of Contents. There is no danger in
deleting these files. Eudora will create two brand new versions
immediately upon restarting.

Guess what ?

Been away from the pc for 8 hours, (I have to go into my ofice now and again !) returned and checked mail, downloaded onto Eudora and there before my eyes it had started to send successfully/automatically without a hitch.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble, Chris

Can now tick the box
