Ethernet problem?

Lost broadband connection from desktop but laptop connects wireless. Contacted BT and they ran through different things and finally said it was hub so they sent new hub. Still same problem. Pc unable to find connection. The ethernet cable is showing light. Could ethernet connection be at fault. Reset hub and devise manager has no ? mark.
At wits end.

Does the connection show limited or no connectivity?

I had a similar problem once and solved by completely disconnecting PC from mains for a few mins and then everything was fine.

Failing that try uninstalling the ethernet drivers and rebooting PC and then reinstall.

Go into network connections (control panel xp)on your pc,does it show the connection,is it enabled,if it does go to properties then internet protocol tcp/ip click properties make sure both are set to obtain automatically

Yes both are set. On bottom toolbar there are 2 icons like screens with an X on them

right click icon with x on it (toolbar) -open network connections-right click icon with red x on the page which opens (should say something like via, broadcom etc)local area connection - right click and it should say enable, click enable
