i was connected to virgin by ethernet but i had probs with xp and had to reinstall, the problem is i cannot connect by ethernet but i can by usb, i think it is a driver problem. How can i tell, and how can i find the driver if it is this?

Have you had a look in Device Manager to see if there are any yellow or red marks.
The Ethernet driver will be on your motherboard driver CD.

i have installed all the drivers on my mothewrboard cd but the ethernet is not recognised

Any marks showing up in device manager?.

no and also not in hidden devices

Go into device manager, right click on the ethernet entry, uninstall the drivers, reboot the computer, then it should find new hardware, when it asks you for the location of the drivers put you motherboard cd in and point it to that.
If that fails, post the make and model of your motherboard.
