Ethernet connection issue

Hey all, I've recently got tired of attempting to finding a reliable signal through my wireless card, and thought I would drill through to the office and wire an ethernet cable to my router from my pc.

I wired the cat5 cable myself and it connects fine to the xbox, however when using it with the pc it doesn't find any connection. The ethernet port has lights and flashes as if it is working, and I have also tried with another router so I'm pretty sure it's either a faulty port (although the lights work) or a setting somewhere on windows or the bios. Or maybe a driver issue?

Im baffled and wondered if anyone could help? Thanks in advance!

Make sure the adaptor is enabled - device manager, network adaptors. If all else fails, an ethernet card would probably solve the problem.
