Ethernet Card Problem

I have a PC related problem and hopefully someone can help.

My old PC died with the error message "Invalid Boot Disk".

I obtained a PC tower from a friend and so I can access the internet, took the ethernet PCI card out of the old machine and put it into the machine I was given.

But my dsl provider software keeps telling me I need to install an ethernet card, which I have done.

However when I first installed it, the PC told me it could not find the software for the new PCI card.

I have an Intel 10/100Mbps Ethernet card which came with my previous PC which was made by emachines.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me.
