Ethernet and Broadband

According to the BT website my area is having it's exchange updated to Broadband in August. I will of course be subscribing to this service and am thinking of changing from freeserve to PlusNet.

However, I have been advised to connect through an ethernet card both to save on system resources and for future networking capability. I already have an ethernet card but am unsure what other equipment I need.

Am I right in thinking that I would need a USB ADSL modem and a cable to connect through the Ethernet Port?

Also is there any feedback on PlusNet from any current users?
