'ESENT' XP event viewer errors types 101-103.

Hi All,
I wondered if anyone could shed some light on some event viewer errors which have suddenly started occuring, practically out of the blue. I get two events (ESENT 100 & 102) when I start up my machine and a further two events (ESENT 103 & 101) approximately five minutes later.

This looks and sounds like some form of time-out and Microsoft imply in their knowledge base that I should be clearing out the "wins" folder under /windows/system32 then restarting the wins service. On checking this folder I can find no files nor a "wins" service running on my machine.

I have to say that I'm unaware of any 'problem' caused by these event in my everyday use of the PC (other than the events clogging up my 'applications' event folder, but would appreciate any hints you might have on stopping them occuring.

My PC spec is a s follows ...

Windows XP
Athlon 2.1 Ghz
512 RAM
100G HDD
NVidia 4600i Graphics
Creative Sound Blaster Audiology 5.1 Sound

Thanks in advance for your help ...

I ran the "wuaueng" thru google and it produced a heap of info about "SUS" errors/Auto Update errors, etc,so I pasted the link here for you to have a look thru and see if anything refers to your PC's software. Not much help, but its a start, sorry.

Thanks Chegs, I take a look and let you know how I get on ...

I am getting the exact same errors which dont seam to cause any problems and nothing in any folders either leo

Further to the mysterious ESENT event viewer errors covered above, with help form Chegs I discovered that these errors happen when my PC automatically checks for Microsoft updates or when I initiate a manual update check. I know microsoft have recently updated their 'online update' package and I suspect that updated SUS files dropped onto my PC on 12/08/2004 are responsible for the errors. Does anyone get anything similar??

Thanks ...

I get these but on my PC they are listed as Information not errors. Have you by any chance got SP2?

Hi Christmascracker, I can confirm that my event viewer reports are listed as 'information' and not 'errors' and I am not running SP2. However, until earlier this month I did not get these reports and am keen to learn what has triggered them off. By best guess is that changes to Microsoft update caused files to be dowloaded to my PC which are in some way faulty. My windows update log c:/windows/windows update, appears to show problems associated with files automatically downloaded from the Microsoft web site on or around 12th August 2004.
