Error reading 'hosts' file

Each time I run AVG antivirus (free edition) it reports an error when reading the hosts file. I tried to find this file in Windows/system32/drivers/etc/ but all I can find is one called lmhosts. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

It means the hosts file is missing, it's nothing to worry about. click here

click here and download Hoster - it will enable you to restore your hosts file and make it read only to prevent misuse by malware.

Thank you both, but, as my PC is working OK without the hosts file, do I need to do anything?

No it will work fine without one.
It can occasionally be hijacked by malware to redirect you to sites, but the AVG scans should pick that up.

Thank you, my mind is at rest.
