Error message try to change touchpad settings?

Folks,

I'm tidying up a pal's Asus notebook. Almost all done. The only outstanding thing is that the touchpad behaviour is sometimes a litle awry...

I've installed the latest synaptics driver, downloaded from the Asus website. It works, but with no improvement...

So I tried to acces the touchpad settings via the mouse setting in control panel. I get the main dialogue ok, and the "synaptics" tab is present, and can be selected. When I click the "Settings" button on that tab however I get an error message, as shown here;

click here

I'd welcome any advice?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Simsy

I may have found the problem...

I always come to PCA site first... on this occasion I should have googled. Having done so I've found this;
click here

I can't check until later... I'll report back when done!

As per my previous link.
Basically the driver provided on the Asus site was no good... the one provided on teh synaptics site works correctly.
