Error message on boot up

  Legolas 12:27 03 May 03

A couple of times in the last week I have had the following error message at boot up 'cmos checksum bad, press F1 to enter setup or F2 to load default settings and continue' I normally press F2 and the system continues to boot as normal, when I get into the desktop the time and date is set at 12:00 2002 and I have to reset apart from that the system runs as normal. The m/b is an Elite K7S5A and it is only a few months old could it be the cmos battery? I am running XP Pro.

It happened to me as well and yes it was the CMOS battery as replacing it cured it. Funny enough mine was based on a K7S5A board as well. Since changing the battery theres been no problem.

Thanks for the replies so far. I will probably try a new battery and see if that cures it although as I said the m/b is only a few months old. I seen in another site that it can be sorted by holding down 'insert' as you boot up has anyone heard of this?

click here also, they both infer that it's the battery that may have gone.

Thanks recap, I hope it is the battery and nothing more serious.

I think it mentions holding down the insert key in one of those links Legolas, and it worked for the person. Hope that's all it take for you.

I think I read somewhere it was just a normal watch battery is this correct or do you need a special type of battery?
