error message

wehave a pc with two hard drives. the first has a dual boot setup, xp is C and vista is D. The other hard drive is storage E. We recently re installed a genuine xp home os on the same partition as the old xp. When we finished, because we havent setup the dual boot yet, it now shows xp as C, no vista, and the other hard drive is now D. Before we re installed, we moved photos, etc, to E. Now the problem is when we are trying to copy the photos back to C where they were in the first place, we get this error message on some, not all, the photos we are trying to copy.

Cannot copy IMGP0647: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Has this got anything to do with what we have done or is this something else. We are puzzled with the error message.
