Error loading Cmicnfg.cpl

Anyone know what Cmicnfg.cpl is? This error message comes on my screen as soon as Windows has loaded.

I have checked all leads etc. and looked on the restore CDs to see if this file is on them - no.

Also, I can no longer get any sound from my PC. Could this be co-incidence with the error message, or possibly a missing driver!?

Thanks for any advice.

Gosh, that looks like a lot of repair work, but thanks for the link. I'll give it a go when I have a few hours available.
