Error creating ISO Image of new Win7 Dell laptop

I have just taken delivery of a new Dell Studio 15 laptop with 64-bit Windows 7 O/S. Before I add any applications or data to it, I am trying to create an ISO image of the hard drive using the image facility in Win7.

When the backup routine gets to the point where it backs up 'Recovery' (I believe all Dell laptops come with a hidden Recovery partition) I get an error message 'The Request could not be performed because of an I/O error' 0x8007045D. The message also suggests that I run chkdsk /R then retry the operation. (0x8078012D)

I get the same error message whether I use DVD-R, +R or RW disks, or an external hard drive.

Does anyone know if Dell intentionally do 'something' to the Recovery partition to stop you copying it or is the image application in Win 7 not sufficiently sophisticated to copy a Recovery partition? If the latter, will Acronis True Image Home 2010 (which I intend to load on anyway) fair any better?
