Error code 1327 - Vista

I see that someone else had this problem about 8 months ago but got no responses. Perhaps this time there is an answer.

I am getting the above error code whenever I use Windows installer to install software. It says Drive G is not valid. Drive G is my removable memory stick with U3 software. I installed some new software onto the stick a few days ago. From my google searches, it appears that the operating system remembers the last drive onto which software was installed and looks for that drive whenever Windows installer is used to add a new program, even if the new program is going onto Drive C. Although the problem seems widely reported, I can't find any relevant fixes. I can work around the problem by always plugging in drive G but that isn't always possible.
