Epson printer--print head driving into end stop.

  hard drive 21:34 23 Oct 03

I have an Epson 740 colour which prints perfectly.
Occasionally when switched on, the print head does it's usual drive all the way left then back to the parked position on the right except that it seems to drive too far right and makes a loud clunk, all the lights come on so I switch it off.
When switched back on it is usually fine and prints well.
I wondered if there is a dirty switch/sensor or something
Any ideas?

Get a soft cloth and spray a light oil like WD-40 onto it. Then wipe along the bar that the printhead runs on thus lubricating it.

This was a fix that I found somewhere on the Web and it worked perfectly for me.

Thanks daconnor, have done as you suggested and after repeated on/off/on cycles I have had no problems.

Great forum with nice helpful people.
