Since switching to XP from 98SE I am unable to find how to check the ink levels in this printer,if I go into properties the indicators are "greyed out", any ideas please ?
(Apologies if this has been covered previously)

You need to install the Status Monitor click here

Windows XP will be using a driver that's packaged with it for the printer. Might be best to get the updated driver from page too...

The "R" model printers are particularly faddy about their software being installed correctly.

Can I suggest, in addition to what PaulB2005 says, that you remove all traces of the printer software and install the whole thing afresh i.e. both drivers and status monitor, following the instructions exactly.

Did you download the correct drivers when you updated to XP ? if not download them from Epson.
then install following the instructions on your original installation.

Not following the instructions, ( esp. connecting the printer before prompted ) can cause incorrect operation
