Enabling security on a D-Link DSL G604T

I've just bought one of these and have easily connected two computers together using the basic instructions but when I try to enable the security, either WEP or WPA I lose the full connection to the second PC.

When I select WPA I'm asked for a server ip address and I put in there. In the 'Secret' I put a generated algorithm code as suggested on here in another thread.

Am I doing this right so far?

When I go to the other PC I get a pop up saying that the USB adapter is looking for a certificate and can't find one.

I've searched through all my cupboards and can't find one either. How do I get a certificate?

I tried using the WEP version of security and have got basically the same kind of result.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Almost forgot. System details.

Both on XP, fully up to date, and using Pipex as my ISP.

Zone Alarm with a manually edited ip range of to

AVG on the main PC and Avast on the secondary PC.

Windows Defender on both.

Signal only needs to travel through the ceiling into the room above.
