I want to set up a small network and share files and internet between two computers.

If I enable connection sharing, will it affect security over the internet?

As long as your PC that is connected to the Internet has a firewall and antivirus then there sould be no problem. You could install both on the other computer if you feel it to be safer.

I wouldnt recommend a firewall on both pc's as they will probably conflict with each other, instead set up the main pc's firewall with ICS and it will protect both pc's.

set up a password to access the drives and change it every so often, anyway just a quick solution.

The PC that has the internet connection ( called the Gateway ) should have a firewall and AVG installed as a precaution and the other PC will be just fine.
