emails disappear; I know when, but how to stop it?

My friend has frequently "lost" emails after downloading them but before opening them. She's on Win XP, using OE with a dial-up connection. Now she discovered that she can prevent this happening if after downloading she then closes OE before disconnecting from her ISP. She can then re-open OE and read them off-line. But if she disconnects after receiving and while OE is still open the emails disappear for ever.

So, OK, she's got a solution , of a sort, but it's very irritating. Can anyone suggest why this is happening and/or a better solution? Her ISP is a local IT company.

Could they being placed in another folder, say a "Spam" Folder.

no, it's not that; they ALL disappear when this annoying glitch occurs.
