i have waited when i saw your reply, for the icon to appear, but no such luck, i had to go to the envelope icon at the top of the screen, and click send/recieve...

When you clicked send/receive, did the icon appear when the email arrived?

You may have turned it off by mistake (or Windows has done it for you).

Right click the Notification Area and select Properties. On the Taskbar tab click the Customize button. Scroll down to "You have new unopened items", left click on it and choose the option you want.

MAJ, no sign of it....

VoG, where will i find this notification area?

Notification Area is what used to be called System Tray - the bit by the clock basically.

I'm sure that Microsoft change the terminology deliberately to engender confusion.
