Email Access USA

I am going to USA soon and need to access email both to send and receive. We will have modem access from the phone line. Do I need a dial up account on my laptop as I only have broadband at the moment? Will there be extortionate charges or will the access be classed as a local call?
Is there anything else I need to do to allow me access?

Which ISP are you with? Some, like AOL, give worldwide access to their services.

BT Broadband.

Assuming the laptop has a 56k modem, you could pick up a CD for a dial-up ISP once over there. PAYG would be a local call, there shouldn't be any set-up fees.

When I went to USA last year on arrival I just signed up with MSN for free for 3 months and cancelled the subscription on my last day.

No disks neccesary.
