I have just compiled a VCD, when I try to run it in Media Player I get a filter error message, Microsoft tell to add the lines as below to the registry, how do I do this?

This issue can occur if the following registry key is missing or damaged:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{DA4E3DA0-D07D-11d0-BD50-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}
The value name and value data information in this key should be:
CLSID={083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}
FriendlyName=DirectShow Filters
Merit (DWORD value)=00600000

Startm Run type in

REFEDIT

and OK.

File/Export and save a copy somewhere convenient like the Desktop. If things go pear shaped you can double click it to restore.

Use the + signs in the left hand pane to expand and navigate to the key that you need to change.

"REGEDIT" - can't type!

if you have xp,create a system restore point before going any further.

first off,you want to back it up(system restore has already done so but do this anyway,just in case)

click start then click run and ok.

click on my computer and click file then export.save this anywhere you want.(to restore the reg.just click on this saved file and restore it.)

still in the registery,click the + next to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scroll down to CLSID

click the + beside CLSID and then below find the DA4E3DA0-D07D-11d0-BD50-00A0C911CE86 line.

click the + again and then the + again on instance then find 083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86 and click it.

on the right should be the lines

CLSID REG_SZ {083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}

Friendly Name REG_SZ DirectShow Filters

Merit REG_DWORD 0X006

sorry i hit post by mistake

last line is

Merit REG_DWORD 0X00600000(6291456)

these are the values that need changing.

hopefully somebody more experienced will explain this better.

sorry win98se

CLSID does not exist, how do I enter this key

  hugh-265156 17:52 14 Jun 03

you need to create it by right clicking HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT then new and select key.

then fill in all the data.as above i think.

If I type CLSID it is already there, under find it is under '.DeskLink' with a totally different value and it does not like to be changed. As a result more advice needed.

  hugh-265156 18:16 14 Jun 03

under desklink it is listed yes.

this is not the key you need to change.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT is big.keep scrolling down to find CLSID

Thanks huggyg71
but the values are correct. So all we have is a typical windows error message, will continue to try
