easy home budget software

My friend want to keep a simple account of her household finances, just monthly income and expenditure type of thing. She has MS Office with Excel but there are no templates or wizards. We would have to create headings, columns etc manually.

Is this the best way or is there a very simple freeware programme you might recommend? I have done a search but most of them seem to have too many features.

Personally, I would just use a table in OpenOffice Writer, but a dedicated program will probably have some features to make the task easier.
