Easy computer backup

I have recently had problems with my computer which has neccessitated in a full system restore.
To safeguard for the future I have bought a 'Maxtor OneTouch III' for my laptop and a 'Maxtor OneTouch 4' for my desktop computer.
These come with backup software which will save my computer data (I can choose what) and will also enable a System restore.
They do seem a little complicated and I am not certain whether they will save my computer and enable a full restore should the worst happen..I have also just been offered, by Avenquest, 'Perfect Image All in one backup and recovery suite'.
Does anyone know if the Maxtor software will do what I require or would I be better off buying the Avenquest?

I would suspect that if you find the Maxtor software "somewhat complicated" then the Avenquest alternative will/could prove even more so.

I have the 400GB Seagate One Touch external hard drive with BounceBack software - it's very simple to learn and use and I would imagine that sister company Maxtor's offering is equally so.
